About the Recipe
Grandma Florene’s Dutch Apple Pie has been a steady favorite throughout the generations. She used crisp Honeycrisp apples and just the right touch of spicing—never too sweet, so the fruit could shine through. With its golden, crumbly streusel topping and time-worn balance of flavors, it’s the kind of pie that tells a story in every bite—rooted in tradition, restraint, and a love for honest flavor.

Ingredients
STREUSEL TOPPING
3/4 cup all purpose flour (3.3 oz.)
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed (3.9 oz.)
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. fine sea salt
6 Tbsp. melted salted butter
PIE CRUST
(1) 10.50 oz. Foster’s Premium Flaky Pie Crust Mix (refrigerate 20 min. before using)
5 Tbsps. ice-cold water
APPLE PIE FILLING
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed (3.9 oz.)
1/2 cup granulated white sugar, 3.6 oz.
3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
6 Tbsp. browned butter w/butter solids
2 Tbsp. lemon juice + 2 Tbsp. water
8 cups apples peeled & sliced; Honey Crisp or Granny Smith
Preparation
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
2. To prepare the streusel topping, combine the dry ingredients, then pour in the melted butter and stir until evenly moistened. Refrigerate the mixture for 15 minutes then remove to soften while preparing the pie filling.
3. Prepare the Premium Flaky Pie Crust Mix as directed on the pouch. Lightly dust your work surface and roll-out the dough to line a 12” pie plate. Place the bottom crust in the pie pan, crimp the edges & refrigerate while preparing the pie filling.
4. For the pie filling, combine spices, sugars & flour in a large bowl and set aside. In a small saucepan, brown 6 tablespoons of butter. Afterwards, stir-in lemon juice and water; set aside. Peel & slice apples about 3/8” thick. Toss with spices in large bowl and stir in browned butter, lemon juice & water.
5. Take the pie crust out of the refrigerator & spoon the apple pie filling into the chilled crust. Break the streusel apart with the tines of a fork to create a crumbly texture. Spoon the streusel topping evenly over the top.
6. Place the pie on the middle rack of oven with a rimmed liner to catch any drippings. Bake approx. 45 to 50 minutes so the streusel is golden brown & the filling is visibly bubbling around the edges. If necessary, protect pie crust edges from over browning with a pie shield. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream. Enjoy!
